THE HISTORICAL THRILLER IS BACK

Author: Bruno Thursday 30 March 2023

In the publishing world, trends exist, too, and some believe that the historical thriller will be a trending topic again in no time, because fashions make comebacks, and the publishing world is pendular. Even though romantic comedies are at the head of the game right now, readers of historical thrillers are eagerly awaiting a great novel. Well, this is it.  LA TIERRA DEL SILENCIO ROTO by Cristina Fornós hides a secret in the Carthusian Monastery of Escaladei. A gripping historical thriller full of atmosphere, mystery, and conspiracies. Readers of LA CATEDRAL DEL MAR and Dan Brown have a safe bet with this new voice.

Montsant, 2019. The appearance of the corpse of Jaume Folch, patriarch of a wine dynasty in the vicinity of Escaladei, brings the authorities to the normally peaceful area. The victim’s throat had been slit, and a symbol engraved with a knife on his chest. The notoriety of the Folch name and the cruelty of the murder demand a quick and discreet investigation, which is assigned to the inspector of the Mossos d’Esquadra (local police) Víctor Sanz Gimeno.

Sagi, the nickname by which everyone knows the inspector, along with the young journalist who discovers the body and who always seems to be one step ahead, will not only uncover the rivalries of the Folch family, but also a legend about a secret brotherhood dating back to the fifteenth century.

A novel with all the ingredients to entertain, to make known an area of Catalonia located in Morera de Montsant, in the region of El Priorat. Founded in the 12th century, Escaladei is considered the first Carthusian monastery in the Iberian Peninsula. Ideal for readers to visit it, after a thrilling reading, and then taste its famous wines.
Let’s give opportunities to new voices that deserve it, and that also uncover a place full of secrets.

SEPARADA

Author: Bruno Thursday 23 March 2023

Much has been said about conscious parenting and education, but I think that in the society we live in, a book like the one I recommend in this blog was missing up until now: A book about conscious separation.

As much as we raise and educate children consciously, if we do not follow the same path when a separation occurs, we could say that we are failing them. Of course, a separation is never something “nice” for a family, but sometimes it is totally necessary. Therefore, doing it consciously and taking care of the little ones is, in my opinion, the best and only way to proceed properly, and after reading the book SEPARADA, I’m even more sure of this.

In this book, therapists Rocío and Miguel Ángel explain how to go through this emotionally complex process. Mother and father of two children each, they both carried out conscious separations and later created a bonded family. Therefore, they know that making the decision to separate and then managing all the changes it entails can be very painful. The fear of traumatizing the children, the fear of the type of custody and not being able to see them whenever you want or the appearance of a third party… all of these can be overwhelming and even paralyzing. However, if the idea has been germinating in you for some time and you know that deep down it is your deepest desire, separation may prove to be the best option.

Narrated with honesty and courage, this book also contains part of the process of separation of the authors, so that it serves as inspiration for you, and you can separate in a conscious and responsible way. Because your children don’t need you living together: they need you to be happy.

DO YOU KNOW HOW TO ATTRACT GOOD LUCK?

Author: Bruno Thursday 16 March 2023

At some point in our lives, we have all thought, “How unlucky I am!” After reading many books on personal growth, I have learned that luck must be sought out and that life is all about attitude.

For this reason, MANEKI NEKO, the new book by Nobuo Suzuki, published by Obelisco, gathers numerous rites to attract money, love, or fortune, according to Japanese ancestral culture. Can good luck be summoned with daily habits? This book explores all the traditional Japanese methods -some magical, others practical- to attract fortune and fulfill our desires. In addition to learning these various rituals in an easy and motivating way, we will explore the essence of good luck and how we can incorporate it into our lives with the proper habits and attitudes.

Those of us who have already read a lot about these topics can feel like we know it all, but the problem is that putting the theory into practice in our daily lives is complex, and this book eases us into that habit almost imperceptibly, introducing small changes in this daily storm that almost all of us live. A useful and practical book that deserves to be checked out, because everything that helps us to live better, in a more serene way, and with a better attitude, will undoubtedly lead us to what we all long for: to be happier. Trying that is worthwhile and never hurts.

We have just returned from my favorite fair, the Bologna Children’s Book Fair. It was celebrating its 60th anniversary, and I was celebrating my 25th because the pandemic meant that I missed three. Being back was fantastic. The fair was full of positive energy, and we were able to experience it again at its fullest intensity.

So here you have our catalogs again, for those of you who have not been able to see them before, and a few photos of our return to Bologna 2023!!! Soon we will be sending the post-fair highlights, because the pace does not stop, and let’s hope it stays that way!

THE BOOKS WE LEAVE UNREAD

Author: Bruno Thursday 2 March 2023

This Thursday I recommend a book for those between 10 and 12 years of age: BIBLIOTECA Z by Gabriel García de Oro, an author whom we know is very popular in this age group, with several titles already published and relaunched several times.

A story in which books are the protagonists is always appealing. Have you ever wondered if books suffer when you don’t finish reading them? Are you one of those people who often leave books half-read?

The truth is that I read a lot and across many genres; I must, because of my job, stop reading when something does not convince me. This is because, as an agent, I have to communicate it to the author and find, if possible, where the fault is. However, as a reader, I find it very difficult to leave a book half-finished, because I always think that reading any book can bring me something.

For this reason, Gabriel tries, through Jorge, a young boy who is going to spend the night at his grandparents’ house, to explain to us what happens to books that are not finished. His grandparents tell him an old family legend about a book long ago abandoned by an ancestor. Jorge is going on a nighttime field trip to the library with his school the next day, so his grandparents entrust him with the mission of looking for this book in the library. Together with his friends, he will go in search of the book, not knowing that it is a very dangerous object and that will put the lives of his classmates in grave danger.

I don’t want to give you more clues, but a book can only be dangerous for a good reason, so it would be best if you read it, and discovered it for yourself.
